Best known in Finland as a Rhythm 'n' blues artist, former frontman with Oiling Boiling R&B band, and guitarist, vocalist with the Henry 'O Band, Neil Berrymen has played countless Jazz Festivals, club dates and corporate events all over Finland. Before moving to Finland he spent extended periods playing professionally in London, New York City, Zürich and Nice and studied jazz at the City of Leeds College of Music.
Neil moved to Finland in 1996 to join Oiling Boiling Rhythm 'n' Blues Band, as lead singer and guitarist. With the band for 3 years, he played clubs and festivals all over Finland. Neil says, "It was a great introduction to the Finnish music scene.... I got to play all over and met some fabulous musicians".
He hooked up with another 'Oiling Boiling', alumnus, Henry Ojutkangas, who lived in the same neighbourhood. "I used to put my baby daughter for a nap on his balcony while we rehearsed at his place". Together with American piano player and singer Wiley Cousins, and drummer Topi Kurki, they formed one incarnation of The Henry O' Band. "That was a great band. We could really do that elusive original rock'n'roll groove. Was a lot of fun too, and easy, with 3 singers in the band. It was hard to keep it going when Henry moved to Oulu, and with Wiley living in Tampere".
